Little Yellow Stowaways

WHAT IS THIS strange yellow bundle clinging to the wheel-arch of our Bedford?

This Scottish June has brought us yellow all around.. yellow gorse along the roadsides, yellow buttercup-blanketed fields and these little yellow stowaways on our truck.
This silken nest of new scuttling spider babies is just one tiny corner of the arachnid population that has taken up residence in our home on wheels. In between fixing down floors and mending fuel tanks, Tui has had to wrestle with his spider terror every time one of these lodgers is disturbed by his screwdriver!
For some reason, spiders love our Bedford!

I leave you with a superstitious spider rhyme in German:

Spinne am Morgen

bringt Kummer und Sorgen
Spinne am Nachmittag
bringt Freude am dritten Tag
Spinne am Abend
erquickend und labend

(Translation:

Spider in the morning
brings grief and sorrow
Spider in the afternoon
brings joy on the third day
Spider in the evening
refreshes and nourishes)

Incredible tiny yellow spiders. I like the black marking on their backs.

Hope you didn't see them in the morning, Rima. ;)

There are a lot of them, aren't there, will they be yellow when they grow up? At least yellow is an easy color to see and avoid for those uneasy with spiders of any hue. Since you know where they are you can always go see them in the evening and get nourished and refreshed! ;).

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Spideeeeeees.

We several black widows living downstairs here. One large one took to making a door-shaped opening in a metal frame as her lair. I had half a mind to make her a tiny wooden door for it! I love that kind of thing.

Well it's a relief that it can be good to see spiders the bulk of the day...

I saw a bundle of tiny ones like these in my compost bucket last week... I believe it was in the afternoon, so I should be OK!

Eeep! I don't like spiders much :-(. Horse chestnut spray or conkers are supposed to deter them, though I've never tried it out myself. This website has a spray for sale http://www.pestcontrolshop.co.uk/acatalog/no_more_spiders.html

The spider rhyme is interesting--not too sure about the last part, though. "spider in the evening/refreshes and nourishes"--sounds like a spider snack! :)

I kind of like spiders, as long as they mind their own business and don't try to crawl on me...

So here I am, just nestling in after a long day in the sun. My little boys are snug in their bed, and I -- thankful for a few minutes to myself -- turn to your blog for some respite from the stress of the day...

EEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeEEEeeeeee!!!

Spiders. I. Hate. Spiders.

There is usually something so inherently cute in the little offspring of most species. Not so with spiders.

Tonight I was going to blog about some awfully creepy things around the house lately. I'll save it for tomorrow; your spiders have me undone. ;)

Please send Tui my sympathies.

Oh man...I'm just doing my normal blog hopping before I go off to bed and I see spiders!! Not good for possible dreams tonight since I practically always take my day to my dreams at night. AND just moments ago I went into the basement to do some laundry and come across my least favorite bug...the huuuuumuuungus centipede!! UGGGHHHH. I shall remind myself never to blog just before bed! (or venture downstairs!) he he
Huge hugs!
Amy :o)

Ahh.. spiders. I live in an attic and it's been a very busy summer for spiders so far. I made a deal with them that they can stay if they keep out of my bed.

Hmm... for the most part I don't mind them, which is good because we have a lot in our dusty old house. However, I draw the line at the big black ones with the knobbly knees and eyes on stalks... eeek!

Ps. I've tagged you if you feel like playing along!

Creepy crawly, but such a lovely color that I'm oddly attracted to them.

I was recently given the You Make My Day award by another blogger; I'm passing it on to others whose sites make My day. This is just to let you know you are one of my choices; check it out at my blog and pass it on if you choose -

Have a Great week!

Little baby spiders! I should post about my spider aversion therapy some time. :) Your home on wheels is magical, just like your art.
