IT IS BUSY here, a house of paintings and cistern-leakings, album finishings and off-to-town sellings, so in the meantime I thought I'd leave you with a favourite piece from a favourite Netherlandish painting... the beautifully painted and beautifully sad close up of Mary's weeping face in Rogier van der Weyden's Deposition.

Finally I found a blog for me.
I first met this painting in High School Art History class and later "in person" while traveling through Europe with a back pack. It is an amazing painting. I love the hands too...

She shares about the themes found in the Netherlandish paintings (and artwork) that were found in churches-- one learns that there was more to the painting than just the depictions painted.
